Things I Love: The Kind Campaign

Thursday, October 15, 2015

I just realized it kinda turned into GIRL POWER week here at In Good Company (and I'm loving it). Today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite movements, the Kind Campaign. Founded by Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, the Kind Campaign is an internationally recognized movement, documentary and school program based upon the powerful belief in KINDness. Their mission is to bring awareness and healness to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl "crime" aka bullying. Lauren and Molly have gone on three national tours, spreading their school assembly program and documentary film in hundreds schools and communities across the U.S.

Ever since the movie "Mean Girls" came out, girls of all ages were forced to take a deeper look at how they treat each other. It shined some light on this girl bullying and made it that much more real. It was a huge wake-up call for all of us.

Last year I saw this girl-against-girl "crime" in kindergarten. That's right I said KINDERGARTEN. On Friday's we allow students to pick where they want to sit at lunch. One girl told another, "You can't sit with us." I. Was. Livid. I mean, LIVID. I couldn't believe it. These girls are six. What's going to happen when they're 13 if they're already treating each other this way in kindergarten? God help us all.

The Kind Campaign has so many ways to get your students or girls you know involved and taking part in this KIND movement. Let's teach girls to build each other up, not tear each other down.
