Funny Friday: SNL Skit "All the Single Ladies"

Friday, March 25, 2016

One of my favorite Saturday Night Live skits is when Justin Timberlake, Andy Samberg, and Paul Rudd do a parody of Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies" video. Check it out here - you'll love it. TGIF

Things I Love: Nate Berkus for Target

Thursday, March 17, 2016

Nate Berkus is that cutie interior designer Oprah made famous. He used to go on here show and offer design advice to viewers as well as coordinate surprise make-overs for her show.

In 2012, Nate started collaborating with Target (!) to launch his Target Home collection, a 150-piece line that includes bedding, bath, accessories, lighting, rugs and window treatments. Lucky for us! He also releases holiday specific lines! His most recent line at Target is stationary and office essentials alongside his 2015 Cali-inspired spring collection.

Lately, every time I walk into Target I have to stop by the office supplies aisle and see what new Nate Berkus items they have out. I've bought a couple here and there, hoping to slide them by my husband a little at a time. :)

Next time you're at Target, make sure you look for anything & everything Nate Berkus - you won't be disappointed.

Things I Love: Mary Kay Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush

Thursday, March 10, 2016

For Christmas I got the Mary Kay Skinvigorate Cleansing Brush and have fallen head over heels in love with it. This lightweight brush gently brushes/ massages as it cleans your skin, removing residue, dirt and makeup.

I noticed the first week I started using it, how smooth my skin felt and my husband even commented how much better it looked. (Not that I have bad skin, so it's a big deal when even he notices it! Insert smiley, blushing face.) I tried to play all coy when he said something to me about it. Wanting to extend the conversation. Can you believe it, he didn't wanna talk about my new skincare regimen? The nerve.

A piece of advice if you've never used a cleansing brush before - don't use it everyday at first. Start with every other day or every two days to see how your face handles it. I was fine using it everyday (combination-dry skin), but my sister (combination-oily skin) had to start out with every other day and work up to using it every day. Just a tip.

Here's how Mary Kay describes it - I'm just gonna say, "Ditto!" -

  • Removes makeup 85% better than cleansing by hand.
  • Boosts the absorption of your next skin care step.
  • Starts improving skin’s appearance immediately.
  • Helps polish away the look of past skin damage for a more even-looking complexion.
  • Softens the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The brush is $50 and comes with batteries and two brush heads (to be changed out every three months).

Guys, tomorrow is Friday! We're almost to the weekend! Hang in there!

A glass (or 2) of wine a day, keeps the doctor away

Monday, March 7, 2016

Last week, Shape Magazine made me the happiest girl on earth with an article entitled, "Confirmed: 2 Glasses of Wine Before Bed Helps You Lose Weight."

Now those who've followed me from the beginning, know I'm not trying to be skinny and I have healthy weight and fitness goals.  And I know, there's two sides to every story. Magazines are REALLY good at drawing our attention - and boy did this one snatch me right up.
Good news for anyone that prefers Cabernet over cardio: Drinking two glasses of wine before bed could actually be the magic pill that helps you lose weight, according to two recent studies from Washington State University and Harvard Medical School.
Here's why: Apparently, there's a polyphenol called resveratrol in red wine that transforms "white fat" into "beige fat" (AKA a version that's much easier to burn off), say researchers at WSU. Even crazier, the Harvard study, which looked at 20,000 women over the course of 13 years, determined that those who drank two glasses of wine daily were 70 percent less likely to be overweight. Whoa.
Other studies have found that resveratol also helps to suppress your appetite. But let's be real here, after two glasses of red I'm in bed, not eating. So maybe THAT'S why it helps you lose weight - you're too sleepy to eat.

Food sources for resveratol include grapes, blueberries, raspberries and mulberries. Yum!

Articles like these are fun to read, but educate yourself, because every magazine has a hidden agenda. I don't really think two glasses of wine before bed will help me lose weight, maybe it will. I'm not counting on it. There's always new research coming out in the health industry, so make sure you're making educated decisions. Do your research!

There is no "magic pill" to weight loss. The only way to do it is eating healthy and putting in the work at the gym! You can't take a shortcut, but you can get started.

BSF Lesson 18: Psalm 23

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Scripture Memory Verse - Revelation 13:8 (NIV)
"All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast - all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world."

Day One
What was meaningful to you in the lecture?
Satan likes us to be so involved with ourselves that we don't see the lost people out in the world. We talked in church today about 1 Corinthians 13, "Love is kind." And how that kindness isn't just being nice to people but Acts of Kindness. Those acts of kindness and acts of love need to also be towards those lost people in the world. We need to do for others, not ourselves. Share the love! xo

What help did you receive from the notes?
"God keeps us safely grounded in truth through His Word, and His armor shields us from Satan's schemes. When you are well-grounded in god's reality revealed in the Bible, you will recognize counterfeits. . . " Gotta keep a look out!

Day Six
What have you learned about God in this week's study?
Revelation 13 reminds us that since the Fall in the Garden of Eden, suffering has been and will be a part of this world until Christ returns. Suffering calls for perseverance in God's people as we await with assurance the end to all suffering, as revealed in Revelation. After reading a series of passages we were to answer each of these questions.

What does suffering do for God's people?
I found my answer in Romans 5:3-4

Not only so, but we[a] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

What does God give His people to equip them in their suffering? He is with us! Psalm 23

What are we called to do since we have received comfort and God's equipping in our suffering? LOVE EACHOTHER!! John 15:12

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

{Please note that what I got from this lesson is not necessarily the same as what others did. People can get very different takeaways from the scripture and questions based on prior knowledge, life situations, faith, etc.}

Funny Friday: Let's Go Eat Cookies

Friday, March 4, 2016

This is a little girl after my own heart. All she wants to do is eat cookies and ice cream and go swimming. I too am a sucker for cookies and ice cream :)

Funny Friday: Running

Irma Tunic

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

LuLaRoe's Irma is, not to overstate it, but the BOMB DOT COM! I have at least five of these bad boys and absolutely love them. They run big, so I suggest ordering at least one size down, maybe even two down. (Ex. If you normally wear a medium, I would buy a XS or XXS.)

The Irma top is a loose, knit "high-low" tunic with fitted mid-length sleeves. The extra length in the back makes it a great compliment to our leggings - especially for all those wanting some extra coverage for their, ahem, assets. Wear this top and you might never take it off!

One of my fave parts about the Irma is the high-low design. It covers your booty in the back but goes to your hips in the front. Business in the front, party in the back. :)

The Irma is the perfect compliment to LuLaRoe leggings!

If you fall head over heels in love with LuLaRoe (like I did), consider hosting a Pop Up Boutique. I'm starting to book in-home and online pop ups for April. It's really easy - you invite some ladies and I bring the clothes to you. No speech, no catalogues, no pressure on you or me! Just shopping with your friends in your home. If you're not into having all of those people over (I get it), you could host an online Pop Up. Whatever your cup of tea you earn FREE clothes! Hostesses earn a free pair of leggings for hosting plus a free item for every 10 sold.
